Storyboard

Image
The directors for the opening to our short film, Ayden Spitz, Kelsey Drummond and I decided to draw and create the story board before writing our script to have a visual aid or all out ideas that were being thrown around. The story board is a graphic organizer of hand drawn illustrations that display the sequence in which the events will occur on the screen. Kelsey was the artistic one in the group that illustrated our thoughts and ideas while Ayden and I laid them out on the table.

Film Research #5- Mike and Dave

Image
The last movie that I choose for my film project is Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. In the beginning two minutes of the movie you understood at least one main character. A variety of film making techniques are used throughout the film, a few camera shot examples were wide shots and aerial shots. Wide shots were used to show the setting and the people that are in the film. An aerial shot was used to show the neighborhood and environment they live in. A editing technique was a shot reverse shot when Dave was trying to sell his brand of tequila to the bartender and the conversation was going back and forth. Another editing example was a long take of the conversion with the bartender. Diegetic sound was used when you see the shot glass hitting the bar counter and a sound motif was used when Mike and Dave are jumping on the trampolines and you hear music and fire works going off. The costumes and set design are both examples of mise-en-scene. In the beginning, Mike and Dave are dressed u...

Film Research #4- Pitch Perfect

Image
Pitch Perfect was the fourth comedy movie we picked to do our research on. With in the first two minutes of the film the main character is established and how she is on her way off to moving into college. There are many film making techniques throughout the film, starting with camera shots and angles, an over the shoulder shot of the main characters tablet that shows she is messing with a sound track she is making. A high angle shot used probably with a crane to show her sitting on a park bench with all her stuff to move into her college dorm. They use continuity editing technique to show the setting is following a chronological order. An Insert of her computer and her editing she music shows how she is so into her music. The sound used was ambient music during the first minute of the scene. The Mis-en-scene of the film was traditional costumes of everyday college kids and her prop was the computer she used to make music. Jobs were featured throughout the opening of the film which inc...

Film Research #3- White Chicks

Image
The first Comedy example I picked was the movie White Chicks. This movie is about two black FBI agents that go under cover as these white chicks to figure out who was trying to kidnap these girls. Within the first two minutes of the film you find out the two main characters who are under cover cops. In this scene it shows them solving a crime while they are dressed up as gas station owners when a drug dealer comes in selling them "ice cream". Some camera shots throughout the opening scene were; over the shoulder (over the dealer looking at the two cops), a wide shot (to show that they are in the gas station), and a close up (of the main characters dressed up). Editing that was done to the film was a shot reverse shot of the deal being made and an eye line match from one of the cops to the dealer. A sound technique used was ambient sound being played to show the authenticity of the two cops playing a role of the store owners. The mise-en-scene that was used were the costumes...

Film Research #2- Bad Moms

Image
The second film we decided to watch, to get a feel about what occurs in the oping scene of a comedy movie, was Bad Moms. This movie is based on three moms who try to live a perfect life for their kids and family; however, they have gotten sick and tired of being perfect all the time and have reached the tipping point. The genre of the film is a comedy. In the opening of the film, it gives us a brief background of the main character Amy Mitchel, played by Mila Kunis, how her everyday life is running her kids around to getting to work to having metal break downs. Throughout the film, the movie is consist of film making techniques so it flows together. In the beginning it starts off with an aerial shot of the average family homes in a neighborhood to a close up of Amy rushing her kids in her car. During this time the main character Amy is doing a voice over describing her everyday life over shoots of what she does. The camera is probably places on a track to follow the car parallel as i...

Film Research #1- Bay Watch

Image
The second film that we decided to watch was Baywatch. Baywatch is a comedy film that is about a devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon, who buts heads with a young new hot shot who wants to be apart of the group and partake in some undercover criminal case solving. In the first two of the film shows a variety of beach scenery shots along with an action scene leading up to the title of the movie. In the movie, there are different film making techniques throughout the opening. For example, there are distinct camera shots such as a long shot of the beach, a wide shot of the girls dong yoga on the beach and a close up of Mitch Buchannon, who is played by Dwayne Johnson. Some editing examples include; shot- reverse shot of Dwayne Johnson seeing a guy parasailing into the rocks to a close up of the guys bloody head back to Dwayne Johnson running to his safety. A sound example would be the incidental music in the beginning of the opening. Mis-en-scene  was used throughout the opening scen...

My Decision

I will now be embarking on what is hopefully going to be an enlightening journey and experience. I, through the training I have thus far received from being involved in my AICE Medias Studies (AS) class, will be composing what will be a magnificent film opening before your very eyes. Don't believe me? Well... guess you'll just have to stick out this journey with me and see for yourself. I decided to create a film opening, mainly because I like taking videos and shooting other people with what they do in their everyday lives. I wanted the genre of my film to reflect what my personality is like that is why I want to do a comedy. I will be embarking on this adventure with my friend Ayden and Kelsey. Here's my current short-term plan moving forward. I need to first research a ton about comedy and drama conventions when it comes to the genre and movie openings. I then have to put together a straight forward plan of what the movie opening will be about and how we should go ab...
