AICE Media Studies

The second film that we decided to watch was Baywatch. Baywatch is a comedy film that is about a devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon, who buts heads with a young new hot shot who wants to be apart of the group and partake in some undercover criminal case solving. In the first two of the film shows a variety of beach scenery shots along with an action scene leading up to the title of the movie. In the movie, there are different film making techniques throughout the opening. For example, there are distinct camera shots such as a long shot of the beach, a wide shot of the girls dong yoga on the beach and a close up of Mitch Buchannon, who is played by Dwayne Johnson. Some editing examples include; shot- reverse shot of Dwayne Johnson seeing a guy parasailing into the rocks to a close up of the guys bloody head back to Dwayne Johnson running to his safety. I will now be embarking on what is hopefully going to be an enlightening journey and experience. I, through the training I have thus far received from being involved in my AICE Medias Studies (AS) class, will be composing what will be a magnificent film opening before your very eyes. Don't believe me? Well... guess you'll just have to stick out this journey with me and see for yourself. I decided to create a film opening, mainly because I like taking videos and shooting other people with what they do in their everyday lives. I wanted the genre of my film to reflect what my personality is like that is why I want to do a comedy. I will be embarking on this adventure with my friend Ayden and Kelsey. Here's my current short-term plan moving forward. I need to first research a ton about comedy and drama conventions when it comes to the genre and movie openings. I then have to put together a straight forward plan of what the movie opening will be about and how we should go ab...

  For my AICE Media Studies exam i have to pick between a movie or a magazine. The magazine does have many benefits: I can do it on my own, I could use my people skills to interview someone and coming up with an over all topic would be easy. The information used throughout the magazine article would be passed on the answers from various interviews. This would be better than a movie because I would not have to write a full script and figure out what camera angles I would need to use. Issues that I might face when making a movie would be scheduling interviews with people and trying to coordinate it all. My skills work better collaborating with a group of people feeding ideas off of one another. Considering everything I believe that the magazine is not the right fit for me. 

          Through out the year we have watched many films in class to get a sense of the different genres that would interest us and could lead us to a decision in picking the movie or magazine for our AICE Media Studies class. Some aspects of film production that I would have interest in would be the way you are able to capture the characters emotions in the film. There are a few concerns with making the movie would be editing. My skills with editing are not up to date with the new software programs that are out in 2017. Shooting on location will also be a trouble shoot because of the constant weather changes. Another issue might be choosing which camera angle goes with which editing effects to allow the movie to flow together. This would be an easier project to do as a group versus doing it on your own.
