Creative Critical Reflection
1. how does your product use or challenge conventions and
how does it present social groups or issues?
·
When challenging the conventions of our film we
used the flash back method of showing what happened that night then earlier in
the day. We did this by within the first few minutes we showed the after math
of the old couple’s party of the trashed pool area with the husband pasted out
in the pool. Then it jumps to the morning of the old couple moving in.2.
·
The social class our film represents is the average
working family with kids. This family has two average parents were the husband
works and the mom stays home with their three kids. While we also have an older
couple that represents the older generation that is trying to me hip and tech
savvy with the growing generation
2.How does your product engage with audiences and how would
it be distributed as a real media text?
·
Our product engages the audience with laughs and
related relationships to the characters. When breaking down our film we have an
elderly couple and a younger couple. As generations grow the older couples
still want to be “hip” with today’s society a technology. There philosophy is
that age is just a number and if you still have a good hip you still can bust a
move. People can relate to this couple since we have grandparents everywhere
trying to fit in with society like they are. With our young couple with kids
they still want to have fun but they know that their party days are over since
their kids are their priority now. When their old neighbors kept the kids up
because of their loud music they were excited to see and older couple moving
in. People can relate to this issue everywhere because we all have had that one
annoying neighbor that is nocturnal. This film we wanted to make as a comedy to
get people to laugh. Everyone has busy stressful life’s so when you go to the
movies or watch a film from your TV you want to view a film that will let you
forget about your day. That is what we strived for with our film.
·
When it comes to distributing the film as real
media text we wanted to go the trailers and social media route. In this day and
age, we as humans are constantly on technology whether is it your smart phone
to your T.V. When people are watching a show anywhere there are always
commercials that play. We can release two trailers that grab the views
attention to go to the movies and watch it or even rent the movie once it comes
out on Demand or even a streaming site like Netflix or Hulu. Another technique
would be hitting up social media. Every young teen to adult has some form of
social media, so if you have our actors share the progress of the film or
tweets about the film it can engage people’s interest to come watch the film.
3. How did your production skills developed throughout this
product?
·
In all honestly, I am not a pretty tech savvy
person. I know a little bit about word documents or PowerPoints but nothing
compared to the technology we had to enquire throughout the year to make a
film. When recording the film, I learned that the best way to get different
angles was to shoot the same event multiple times and shoot it in different
ways to have a variety of options when editing the film. I learned how to work
a drone for the opening shots of the film. I had a little crash course from my
12-year-old cousin on how to control the drone and receive the footage onto my
phone through Bluetooth. I had to have multiple takes of the drone footage
until I could get the drone to fly sideways without constant movement. One
point I learned was to not fly the drown on a very windy day. The biggest
production skill I developed was using Adobe Premier Pro. When first opening
the application I looked at the screen in utter confusion. Later after
streaming multiple YouTube videos and the help from my adviser, I was able to
figure out the basics about the program.
4. How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware
and online- in this product?
Doing the research to figure out what film category our
group wanted to do, we used laptops to perform the research on. When
researching a category, our group gravitated towards comedy. What pulled us
towards a comedy was we wanted to make people laugh and make them forget their
bad or stressful day they might have been having.
An online website where we started our blog post process to
have a timeline for the making of our video was Goggle Blogger. This website I
used to keep a ‘diary’ of my progress with the film. I use this to demonstrate
what my thought process with the film and any accomplishments I wanted to
achieve with the opening to the film.
When producing my film, we used multiple technologies to
form the best quality over our film. When it comes to cameras we used two
types, from your traditional video camera and a drone. When working with the
video camera it was your normal HD footage coming from Cannon rebel T3I. While
on the drone you had to set the resolution to get the higher quality picture. It
was hard to operate in the air and get steady footage so it took us multiple
times to accomplish what we wanted.
Once all the footage was shot we downloaded it onto the school
lab tops which had a program called Adobe Premier Pro. This application is a
video editing program where you can download your footage and put the videos
together with edits to form the opening to our film.
Every quarter we would post your groups rough draft of our
film on YouTube and get feedback from our peers on what should be fixed or what
is good.
